Can I adjust the proximity detection distance?

Yes, you can adjust the proximity distance between 2, or more, badges. By default, the safe distance is not set properly so before useing the SafeDistance Solution, you need to set it to 1.5meter (5feet), like shown in the drawing below.

Basically there are 2 ways to change the proximity distance between 2, or more, badges:

1. Downlink Profile method
2. Auto-config iBeacon method

Downlink Profile Method

A downlink profile can be used to change certain parameters on an individual, a group or all Safe Distance Badge(s) on your account.  

On the SafeDistance Portal, go to the "Asset"" --> "Downlink profiles" menu and then click on the green + icon

to add a new Downlink profile.

Mute profile example

Hereunder an example of a Downlink Profile called "Mute" that sets each badge, that has this profile assigned, in mute mode (beeping and vibration off) and sets the BLE receiving threshold to -77dBm and BLE transmit power to -12dBm. These are the settings that are closest to obtaining a Safe Distance of 2 meter for EU868Mhz badges.

For US915Mhz badges, these values might be different!

Click on Assets below the Downlink Profile Details section to select the SafeDistance badges that you want to use this profile.

You can also set it to an entire group of devices in the section "Types" at the bottom of the page.

Note !     The new profile is applied immediately. Each badges will receive the new settings the next time it checks in                             to the platform. This can be as fast as in 10 seconds, but can also take up to 5minutes (=default                                             heartbeat message interval).

Default profile example

Hereunder an example of a Downlink Profile called "Default" that sets each badge, that has this profile assigned, in default mode (beeping and vibration on) and sets the BLE receiving threshold to -68dBm and BLE transmit power to 0dBm. These are the settings that are closest to obtaining a Safe Distance of 2 meter (6 feet).

Extended Proximity Range profile example

In case you deploy the SafeDistance solution on a location where the allowed Social Distance is more (or less) than 2meter (6feet), you can change the BLE threshold in order to reflect the desired distance between 2, or multiple, badges. The setting below will give you a range of typically >5meter (>16feet) for example.
