Step 2: Connecting a LoRaWAN sensor to the CloudGate

This is the second step in setting up your CloudGate. This step will be explained by connecting a LoRaWAN sensor to the CloudGate.

Please follow the instructions below carefully.


  1. Browse to the “Main Menu” →  “Applications” tab.

  2. Enable “LoRa” in the input section. A button called “LoRa” will appear on the right side.
    Please note! It can take up to 30seconds before the Lora page is loaded!
  3. Click on this “LoRa” button to add new LoRa devices.



  1. In the "LoRa Setup" section, select the desired region and press the “Save changes” button.
    - EU (Europe), IN (India) or RU (Russia) for 868MHz devices.
    - US for 915MHz devices.
    - Other LoRaWAN regions are currently not supported.

 

  1. In the OTA Devices section, press the  icon to add a new LoRa sensor.

  2. The CloudWizzard fully supports the following LoRaWAN vendors/sensors types*:

  1. Select the "Device Type" and "Model" of the sensor you’d like to add.
    If your sensor brand and/or model is not listed, but you do have the payload decoder available in LUA code, please select "Generic" as device type and model and follow the instructions in this advanced tutorial.
    You can  reach out to your OPTION point of contact if your sensor brand is not listed and you don't have the decoding scheme. The list of LoRaWAN Payload decoders is continuously being expanded!


  2. Enter the DevEUI (16byte) and Appkey (32byte) as provided by the sensor manufacturer. The LoRa Class for most battery operated sensors is “A”. For mains powered sensors or actuators this is often "Class C". Class B devices are currently not supported. 

  3. Press the  button once completed to add the new sensor.

  4. Some new fields are generated as you can see. A “Description” and “My Device ID” can be configured, but these are not mandatory.

  5. Next are the defined objects inside the payload message of this sensor type. There are 3 different kinds of Objects:
    1. Objects (system) are related to the LoRaWAN system, like the spreading factor for example.
    2. Objects (standard) are related to the actual payload of the sensor and are defined in the preconfigured message decoder in the Smart UI Application.
    3. Objects (user) is for advanced users that want to define their own objects in a received LoRaWAN message.

  6. In the Objects (standard) field, cycle through the discovered pages for any fields that are of your interest to send to the Cloud for this sensor.
  7. The Objects that you want to send to the Cloud can be enabled by clicking on the icon in front off it, and setting Enabled to “Yes”.

    In the example below, we only want to send the temperature data to the Cloud. You can see this object is enabled for transmission to the Cloud by the check-mark.
     

  8. Scroll down to the "Data Upload" section and set Enabled to Yes in order to make the selected Objects of this sensor available for being sent to the Output. 
    Make sure to press the "Safe changes" button.

  9. The application will take you back to the LoRa page where you can see an overview of your added LoRaWAN sensors. 

  10. Repeat steps 5 through 14 for all sensors you'd wish to add.

  11. You can now power on the sensor(s) and let it perform a Join-Sequence in order to join to the private CloudGate LoRaWAN Network. Once joined, it will be displayed as "true", as shown below:


    Congratulations, your LoRa sensor is now connected to your CloudGate. You can proceed to the next step.
